U14, U16 and U19 Teams

Note that all contact teams in So. Cal are open to any boy (or girl) under 19, 16, 14, 12, 10 etc. years old on September 1, no matter what school they attend. These are clubs not officially affiliated with the school, even though many of the players attend one particular H.S.
Boys and girls must play on separate teams against others of their own sex. In 2008 we will offer a girls U14 contact rugby team.

North County Barbarians

In 1997 we started a High School team at Rancho Bernardo H.S. The team colors were royal blue and white - matching the Gurkha mens team that the founder and coach (Devon Cuttrell), and coach (Ray Steel) had been players with since the mid 1980's.

In 1999 the RBHS Barbarians played six games of XV's, home and away vs. Las Vegas, home vs U.C.S.D., away vs. CA youth authority, home and away vs Callabas H.S.

The 2001 season featured a 12 game season, a 2 game trip to Sacramento, and an alumni game. The Barbarians finished 7-5 including a win against a college side and 1-1 versus touring Canadian high school teams.

In 1999 the first players from RBHS began playing on the Gurkha club side and some played for college sides.

In 2004 the U19 club changed its name to North County (Barbarians) Rugby Club, as many of the players do not attend Rancho Bernardo HS, and it matched the mens team name change from Escondido (Gurkhas) to North County (Gurkhas).

In 2007 all youth programs were officially merged into the North County Rugby Inc. a non profit 501 (C)(3) corporation. Due to the long history of the various programs it was decided that each team would continue to use their original logos and team names. 2007 was also the first year that we had a  boys U16 team, and they also play under the Barbarian team colors and logo.

See the main page for practice times and contact information.
