Rugby is a game predominantly played by boys, but is becoming a more popular sport amongst girls due to its physically demanding and aggressive nature.
Rugby has recently been re-included into the Olympic Games (last time was 1924) and men's and women's teams from around the world will compete for Gold medals starting in 2016 (Rio de Janeiro). Rugby will be a non medal sport at the London Olympics in 2012.
Women's rugby in the US sprang up in the mid 1970's, and the first Women's National Championship was held in 1978. The first ever national women's rugby team was formed in 1985, and toured throughout England and France undefeated. Many of the players on this team went on to be win the inaugural Women's World Cup in 1991.
The United States was first rugby playing nation to have a woman president of its union. Today
women's rugby is becoming ever more popular not only in the U.S., but all over the world. Everyone on our team hopes to help girls and women's rugby and make this truly fantastic sport ever more popular in the U.S.
