Gurkha Gab October 2001

Golf Tournament:

Thanks for everyone who participated and helped out at this years event. A very special thanks to Dr. "Archie" Archuleta for he is truly the glue that binds us in this yearly project.

Club Happenings:

The Club just finished 2 weeks of community support in Escondido and in Encinitas helping out 2 separate 5k runs. Sunday, Oct 2nd saw 10 members meet at Kit Carson Park in Escondido to help with course marshaling, registration and water stations for the San Dieguito River Walk 5k. T-Shirts and food and even beer was given out to these volunteers as thanks, fun was had by all.

Saturday, Oct 6 saw 15 Gurkhas meet at 5am to help out with the Encinitas 5k run. This event has given us a high profile in the sports community the last 2 years!! Without the help we have provided at this event, we most likely would not have Leo Mullin Park to play our home games at!!!! So remember that when we ask for volunteers for non-Rugby playing events!!

Our next big fund raising push will be a Pub Crawl Raffle ticket sale on the 19th and 20th of October! We will be meeting in 2 groups, 1 in San Marcos and 1 in Carlsbad ON EACH night. Let us know which group and night you are able to help with. The drawing will be held the day of the 10's tournament, Oct. 27, 2001.

Prices for the 2003 Gurkhas Invasionary Tour of New Zealand are looking to be around $2200.00. We will be taking $500.00 Non-Refundable deposits to reserve your spot by March of this year.

Scott Talbot is now the coach of the NEW La Costa Canyon Under 19's Rugby Club, which is centered out of Encinitas. If you want to help out contact him at 760-757-3304.

John Gibb is also the coach of the Rancho Bernardo Barbarians. If you would like to help John out or know any high school aged kids that would like to play rugby contact John at 760-737-8684.

Remember to visit the website for info on ALL THINGS GURKHA at www.GurkhaRugby.com. We are selling email addresses with "yourname@GurkhaRugby.com". It's $20.00 a year, it's a full POP3 email account. Meaning you can set it up in any email program rather than using just a "web browser only" account like Yahoo or Excite. Payment will be due yearly at club dues time.

Gurkha 10's Tournament:

This years event is going to be Oct 27, 2001. We don't have a field finalized yet, but it is looking like it's going to be at Orange Glen High School in Escondido.

Recruiting:

On Saturday the 13 of October, we are going to set up a booth at the "Escondido Fall Festival". This will be a festival of Escondido businesses and such and will be a great opportunity to do some recruitment. If you are available to help out on this let one of us know, we are going to set-up a TV/VCR and show rugby games and just answer questions about rugby.

The Gurha Magic Bus:

Well it has happened we have a touring bus! It's over at Ray's and next week after the Fall Festival in Escondido we are going to have a BBQ and clean-up of the magic bus.
